The MIT Enterprise Forum of Connecticut announces its next educational and networking event, to be held on the evening of Thursday, March 24, at the New Haven Lawn Club.
“Anthology of a Startup: Successes, Challenges, and Lessons Learned” will focus on the launch of a Connecticut-based startup company, iNeedHomeCareNow LLC. The featured speaker for the evening will be the company’s founder and CEO, Ira Yellen.
Yellen will describe the startup process from conception and funding to product release, with all of its ups, downs, twists, and turns. Community-based healthcare and support service providers operate in an extremely fragmented environment, making it difficult for service providers to communicate with consumers and for consumers to find qualified service providers or to fend for themselves.
iNeedHomeCareNow offers family caregivers an on-demand mobile app/website for access to one-on-one caregiver advisers, links to important self-help resources, and lists of qualified home care agencies to contact for a nominal fee. It is a tool designed to reach the millions of family caregivers who need immediate guidance and support to help a loved one on a daily basis.
Investors, startup founders (both potential and actual), consultants, mentors, and technology specialists are encouraged to attend.
The presentation will cover:
Keeping the enterprise positive and future focused during setbacks
When to change or pivot
Dealing with boot strapping
Who should you recruit to be part of the effort
Using investor moneys diligently
Understanding the industry, competition, and differentiation.
Following Mr. Yellen’s presentation, the Forum will conduct a panel discussion about iNeedHomeCareNow’s startup process and how other potential entrepreneurs can learn from it. Panelists will include Andy Greenawalt, Founder and CEO of Continuity Control Inc., Ned Gannon, Co-Founder and CEO of, eBrevia, Inc., and Douglas Roth, Director of Investments at Connecticut Innovations. Richard Harris, Partner at DayPitney LLP, will moderate the discussion.
Ira Yellen is a seasoned business person, entrepreneur, venture investor and mentor, and he will offer a unique perspective on his four year journey bringing his ideas from dream to reality. He and MITEF’s panel of experts will reflect on this adventure, comparing Ira’s initial expectations with his real life experience. This story has many twists and turns, and the presentation should prove both entertaining and educational.
“Anthology of a Startup: Successes, Challenges, and Lessons Learned” will be held on Thursday, March 24, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at the New Haven Lawn Club located at 193 Whitney Ave., in New Haven. Admission is $10, and tickets should be purchased in advance. Visit
