It all starts with how a home care agency prepares their caregivers to be part of the family team effort. Hear from the inside how a Massachusetts based home care agency recruits, trains and assigns caregivers.
The people we consider hiring as home health aides must meet very specific criteria. We for people who are patient and kind with positive energy and great communications skills, and who have empathy for the elderly and can perceive small changes in a clients behavior or health status. They must have the emotional intelligence and common sense to communicate, follow protocols and report both positive and negative incidents to our nursing team.
We recommend that you research the agency and get at least 2 references. Also, if you hire an independent caregiver be sure to check with your state department of health or equivalent to see if they have a license and are insured (bonded) for your loved-ones protection.
